An extraordinary day of ancient wonder. Rise early to climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress as the morning mist lifts over the jungle plains below — a sunrise view you will never forget. The 5th-century palace citadel features world-famous frescoes of celestial maidens and breathtaking 360° views from the summit. In the afternoon, visit the magnificent Dambulla Cave Temple — five ancient caves filled with 153 Buddha statues and 2,100 square metres of centuries-old murals.

Visit a working tea factory to see how Ceylon tea is crafted from leaf to cup, and stroll through Victorian-era botanical gardens as the afternoon mist rolls in from the mountains.

One of the most romantic days of the journey. Drive through the highlands to charming Ella, where mist-covered valleys and jungle-clad hills create a backdrop unlike anywhere else on Earth. Visit the iconic Nine Arch Bridge at dawn as the train passes through — one of Sri Lanka's most photographed moments. Hike up Little Adam's Peak for sweeping valley views, cool off at the magnificent Ravana Falls, then end the evening with a candlelit hillside dinner — arguably the most romantic meal in Sri Lanka.

Head to the sun-drenched south coast for a perfect beach day. Mirissa is Sri Lanka's most beautiful crescent beach — a sweeping arc of golden sand fringed with swaying palms and warm turquoise water. In season (November–April), an optional morning whale watching cruise takes you out to see blue whales — the largest animals on Earth — just a short distance offshore. Spend the afternoon at the beach and end with sunset cocktails at Coconut Tree Hill, one of the most romantic sunset spots in Sri Lanka.

A gentle final morning before your flight. Drive along the southern coast to the UNESCO-listed Galle Dutch Fort — one of the best-preserved colonial fortifications in Asia.
