Rising dramatically 200 metres above the surrounding jungle, Sigiriya is one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites on Earth. Built in the 5th century by King Kashyapa, this palace citadel perched on a single granite rock features world-famous frescoes, magnificent water gardens, and panoramic views of the surrounding plains. It is Sri Lanka's most visited monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Your tour continues to the golden city of Dambulla, where five ancient cave temples carved into a 160-metre rock massif shelter 153 Buddha statues, 3 shrines, and over 2,100 square metres of stunning painted murals — the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Asia. Day Itinerary
Your private AC vehicle collects you directly from your hotel in Sigiriya, Habarana, Dambulla, or nearby areas. An early start ensures you arrive at Sigiriya as the gates open, avoiding the midday heat and tour groups. Your driver will introduce themselves and brief you on the day's schedule.
Before climbing, explore the magnificent Royal Water Gardens that surround the base of the rock — an extraordinary feat of ancient hydraulic engineering. Symmetrical pools, fountains, and moats are precisely aligned with the rock's shadow. Your guide (Premium & All-Inclusive) will explain the garden's design and its royal significance.
Ascend approximately 1,200 steps through the remarkable Lion Gate — where two enormous lion's paws guard the final staircase carved directly into the rock face. Along the way, pause at the famous Sigiriya Frescoes: 22 surviving paintings of celestial maidens (apsaras), painted 1,500 years ago in vivid mineral pigments. At the summit, explore the ruins of King Kashyapa's palace with breathtaking 360° views across the jungle plains.
Descend and drive to the serene Pahalagama Lake — one of the most beautiful and photogenic spots in the Cultural Triangle. The lake's glassy surface perfectly mirrors the surrounding forest and rock outcrops. All-Inclusive guests enjoy a traditional Sri Lankan lunch here while taking in the views.
Climb the short ascent to the Dambulla Cave Temple complex — five ancient caves carved into a 160-metre rock massif. Inside, discover 153 Buddha statues, three shrines, and more than 2,100 square metres of magnificent painted murals covering every ceiling and wall. The largest cave, Maha Raja Viharaya, is particularly spectacular. The complex dates to the 1st century BC and remains an active place of worship.
Your driver returns you comfortably to your hotel. Depending on your schedule, your driver can also suggest nearby restaurants, spice gardens, or elephant orphanages for an evening extension. All-Inclusive guests receive a final cold refreshment for the journey home.

Frequently Asked Questions
Sigiriya involves approximately 1,200 steps and takes around 1–1.5 hours to reach the summit. The climb is considered moderate. There are handrails and rest points throughout. We recommend comfortable walking shoes, light clothing, and plenty of water. Most people of reasonable fitness manage it comfortably.
We depart early — typically around 7:00 AM — to arrive at Sigiriya when the gates open. This avoids the midday heat and peak crowd times, giving you the most enjoyable climbing conditions and the best light for photography.
Standard Package guests purchase their own tickets at the gate. Premium and All-Inclusive guests have tickets arranged in advance by us, saving time at the entrance. Sigiriya entrance is approximately USD $30 per adult for foreign visitors; Dambulla is approximately USD $10.
Yes. Dambulla Cave Temple is suitable for most visitors. For Sigiriya, children are welcome but the climb can be challenging. Elderly guests or those with mobility issues often choose to enjoy the Royal Water Gardens and lower areas while others climb. Please let us know when booking.

Both sites are accessible year-round. The dry season (January–April and June–September) offers the most reliable weather. However, even during the wet season (October–December and May), mornings are usually clear — and the jungle around Sigiriya is at its most lush and green.
